Inclusion through Social Role Valorisation in Indian Context: Theory and Practice
SRV theory is a social science theory that can help in improving the lives of people who are disadvantaged in society. It has been introduced to India and has had a significant impact in recent years to help many groups of devalued people. In India, after independence, the momentum gains to uplift the status of persons with disabilities through various initiatives such as polices, schemes, legislations, acts, etc. by government and non-government level. There have been many changes realized through various agencies. The various act was developed and enacted to provide equal opportunities and facilities. Now, there are 21 types of disabilities as per the Rights of Person with Disabilities (RPWD) Act 2016. National Education Policy-2020 comes after 34 years (NEP 1986). This policy has included and recommended many provisions for facilitation and development for person with disabilities through education. As per the census 2011, the population of disabled is 2.1% of the total population. In this study, the author tries to explore and present the scenario and development of devalued people. The paper also tries to give initiatives taken by government and non-government organizations to facilitate the devalued people in India through various agencies, committees, acts, policies etc.

Yogendra Pandey, Ph.D. & Professor at Faculty of Education, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi-India. As the faculty in Special (V.I.) and Inclusive Education particularly in the Teachers training, he has over 22 years of experience. He has published more than 70 (36+34) publications in reputed journals, chapter in books and self-instructional materials (SLM) for open distance learning. He participated in more than 100 national & international conferences, symposia, workshops etc.​
