Getting that Good Job: How Social Role Valorisation Strengthens a Customised Employment

In this presentation, Jan talks about her experience in finding meaningful work for her son, Jack. Jack is a soccer player, flatmate, Brooklyn Nets fan and happens to have Down syndrome. Jack has held six jobs since the age of 14. He is now 22 and working 5 afternoons a week. Jan will share how they applied Social Role Valorisation theory and Customised Employment to identify the most aligned and highly valued work roles for Jack. Jan also shares how they meticulously assessed Jack's tasks in his work roles and how they applied an SRV lens to ensure he was perceived positively and seen as competent.
