Building a Career vs. Getting a Job: Roles vs. Activities
Building a Career vs. Getting a Job: Roles vs. Activities
First jobs are a good starting point for all young adults to learn work skills, habits and disciplines. For many people with impairments, this is where the goal ends and is not focused on how to build it into a career for someone; resulting in many people staying in low paying, entry level positions for their entire work lives. This presentation describes the application of the principles of competency and image enhancement to help Michael to achieve the Good Worker role by using his job experience to help him to have a career with valued social roles that speak more to his identity.
